While a simple and straightforward recipe, this is the perfect combination of flavors for an elegant, classic and delicious margarita. There are three ingredients, so you must only use the best. There is nowhere for the cheap stuff to hide. Booze. Use only 100% agave tequila. I am partial to Herradura silver but there are literally hundreds of options available now in the U.S. market. Lime. Unless you know your produce purveyor and can ensure that the lime juice is fresh squeezed, buy a boat load of limes and squeeze them yourself. A cheap citrus squeezer will run you five bucks. If you plan to drink these weekly - and why shouldn't you - you may upgrade to an electric juicer. Regardless, there is no substitute for fresh citrus. Orange liqueur. Despite what you may have learned in college, Triple Sec is not acceptable. Two readily available premium orange liqueurs are Cointreau and Grand Marnier. There are a few less familiar options as well, such as Patron Citronge or Hardy Extase XO from Curacao.

Ingredients

  • 2 oz tequila
  • 1 oz fresh lime juice
  • 3/4 oz orange liqueur

Instructions:

  1. Fill shaker with ice, add ingredients and shake. Strain to serve up or pour into glass to serve on the rocks, as preferred.
